Saudi Arabia: Security forces arrest Qatif protesters

Saudi security forces have arrested a number of protesters in the eastern city of Tarot, after accusing them of throwing Molotov bombs at a police station.
The town, in the Qatif province, is largely inhabited by Shia Muslims who have been protesting for democracy in recent months.
Police spokesperson lieutenant Ziad Alriqaiti said in a statement late on Wednesday that a “number of anonymous individuals threw Molotov bombs at the police station in Tarot this morning, in the wake of the arrest of a suspect involved in drug trafficking."
He added "the incident caused no injuries and a number of suspects have been arrested for questioning," without revealing their number.
He produced no evidence of the attack and did not provide photographs of the building.
Security forces have killed at least three people in recent weeks as they have sought to crackdown on protests in the region.
Two men were killed following the arrest of prominent Saudi cleric Nimr al-Nimr earlier this month.
Protests in the Qatif region broke out last year, with mainly Shia activists complaining of marginalization from the central government.
