The head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, described the crime of murdering the Egyptian clergyman, Hasan Shihata as well as his two brother and one of his students represents a decline of the efforts promoting the tolerance in the Islamic world.
He stated at his Facebook page “Targeting Shihata by the radical groups in Egypt is to ruin the efforts exerted to create harmony in our Islamic world especially if we know that he was targeted due to his belongingness to the Shiite sect.”
He called “To avoid repeating such crimes that has no connection with the Islamic religion.”
Takfiri groups attacked Shihata in Cairo while he was celebrating the occasion of Imam Mahdi Birthday anniversary. The attack resulted in killing Shihata and three of his companions while 30 others were injured in the attack.
