3 Million Pilgrims Celebrate Imam Mahdi Birth Karbala 24.6.2013



The local government in Karbala city revealed on Tuesday, that the number of visitors that came to the province on the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of Imam Mahdi on August 15 reached more than 3 million visitors, including 55000 visitors from Arab and foreign countries.

"The number of visitors who came to the province on Shabaniya occasion exceeded more than 3 million visitors,” the Spokesman of Karbala province , said Salem al-Zubaidi".

“55 thousand visitors came from Arab and foreign countries via land and air ports and in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior”.

“1000 buses were used including 400 buses that were rented by the local government and 250 buses belonging to the Ministry of Transport, as well as 400 buses by the Husseinya and Abbasiya shrines,” he added.

Shiite Muslims revives Shabaniya visit in the fifteenth of Shaaban month of every year, on the anniversary of the birth of Imam Mahdi and head to the shrine of Imam Hussein in Karbala.

Al-Furat al-Awsar Operations Command announced last Saturday, the deployment of more than 36 thousand security elements to provide protection for Shaabaniya pilgrims who will head to Karbala city about (180 km south western of Baghdad).
