Free Syrian Army Torch Another Shia Mosque in Syria

A video posted on the Internet shows bearded men dressed in the uniforms of the so-called “Free Syrian Army” celebrating outside the burning Husseiniya mosque.


A militant can be heard in the video using derogatory terms against the Shias.


The video was posted online on Wednesday and it was purportedly filmed in the northern town of Jisr al-Shughur.


Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the turmoil.


The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of militants operating in the country are foreign nationals.


Last month, the Syrian newspaper Al Watan published the names of 142 foreign militants, from 18 countries, who were killed while fighting against the government. Almost 50 of those named were Saudi nationals.


According to the daily, the militants had entered Syria via Turkey and Lebanon and were mostly extremists belonging to al-Qaeda or had joined the terrorist group after arriving in the country.

Saudi Wahhabi Security Forces Demolished Imam Hussein Mosque in Awamiyah

Saudi security forces have demolished a Shia mosque in Eastern Province as anti-regime demonstrations continue in the country.

The mosque, known as Ein Imam Hussein Mosque, was razed by the regime forces as part of the crackdown on protesters in the town of Awamiyah.

Prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nemr al-Nemr used to lead daily prayers in the mosque prior to his detention.

Sheikh Nemr was attacked, injured and arrested by the security forces of the Al Saud regime while driving from a farm to his house in the Qatif region of Eastern Province on July 8.

Rights activists say hundreds of political prisoners remain locked up in Saudi jails under harsh conditions and without access to a lawyer.

People are randomly arrested by the Saudi police just for looking suspicious and are even held behind bars for years before they are charged.

According to Human Rights Watch, the Saudi regime “routinely represses expression critical of the government.”

Since February 2011, protesters have held demonstrations on an almost regular basis in Saudi Arabia, mainly in Qatif and Awamiyah in the oil-rich Eastern Province, primarily calling for the release of all political prisoners, freedom of expression and assembly, and an end to widespread discrimination.

However, the demonstrations have turned into protests against the repressive Al Saud regime, especially since November 2011, when Saudi security forces killed five protesters and injured many others in the province.

The Al-‘Abbas Mosque or Masjid al-‘Abbas (Arabic: مسجد الامام العباس)

 

The Al-‘Abbas Mosque or Masjid al-‘Abbas (Arabic: مسجد الامام العباس) is the mausoleum of ‘Abbas ibn ‘Ali, located across from the Imam Hussein Mosque in Karbala, Iraq. ‘Abbas was the brother of Hassan and Hussein, and was the flag-bearer for Hussein in the Battle of Karbala.

The distance between the shrines of ‘Abbas and Hussein, are the same as the distance between the hills of Al-Safa and Al-Marwah.

Environmental effects over the years have caused the Euphrates River to change direction. Nearly 1400 years after the Battle of Karbala, the river flows across the grave of ‘Abbas and encircles it. It is said that the Euphrates has come to ‘Abbas now.

History and design

Emperors and kings of various dynasties have offered valuable gifts and gems to the shrine of ‘Abbas. History of the current structure began in 1622 with Abbas Shah Safavi, who ordered the decoration of the grave's dome. He also built a window around the grave and organized the precinct.

Majority of the modern design was done by Persian and Central Asian architects. The central pear shaped dome is an ornately decorated structure with two tall minarets on its sides. The tomb is covered with pure gold and surrounded by a trellis of silver, along with Iranian carpets rolled out on the floors.
