Grand Ayatollah Makarem: "We Hope Shrines of Baqi’s Imams would be Built Magnificently One Day"

Condemning the insulting destruction of all the Islamic monuments in the two holy shrines especially tombs of Baqi’s Imams, Grand Shiite cleric, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi asserted, “Over 80 years ago on Shawwal 8 (16th August), the stupid Wahhabis ruined the magnificent shrine of the Infallible Imams (A.S.) in Baqi.”
Grand Ayatollah Makarem: "We Hope Shrines of Baqi’s Imams would be Built Magnificently One Day"
Noting that Shawwal 8 is the mourning day not only for Shi’as but for all Muslim nations, the great scholar said, “This is the day, when the tombs of the sons of the prophet (S.A.W.) were destroyed by a group of stupid people with the false excuse of polytheism.”

“Polytheism means regarding someone or something equal to God but when we visit their shrines in fact, we view the great Infallible Imams (A.S.) as intercessors between us and God that is mentioned many times in the holy Qur’an as a monotheism fact”, he stressed.

Wahhabis ashamed Islam

Noting that Wahabis have no true knowledge of Qur’an and tradition (Sunnah) and try to show the traditions of the Infallible Imams (A.S.) reverse, he continued, “Despite publishing yearly millions copies of holy Qur’an, this people, unaware of the Islamic injunctions and holy Qur’an, ruined the tombs of the Infallible Imams (A.S.) and ashamed Islam; we hope God may make them ashamed.”

Destroying the expressive history of Muslims

“This illiterate and stupid group not only ruined the tombs of Baqi’s Imams but destroyed all the historical monuments of Mecca and Medina that were symbols of grandeur of Islam while all people of the world attempt to preserve their own historical monuments at any cost”, he added.

Noting that they consider this Islamic heritage as their personal property and assume that Mecca and Medina only belong to them, this religious authority asserted, “It should be asked why they did so and deprived the Islamic world from these things? The Islamic monuments belong to all the Muslims of the world and every thing accomplished there should be compromised by all Muslims.”

“I have recommended many times that all the great Muslim scholars should gather and the holy shrines of the Ahl al-Bayt (A.S.) should be managed by representatives from all the Islamic countries so that events like Shawwal 8 event would not happen any more”, he asserted.

Referring to the sura Nesa, verse 64 in which God calls people to the prophet (S.A.W.) and says: O prophet, when they commit sin coming to you, ask forgiveness for yourself and for them as God is compassionate and merciful, he said, “Wahhabi scholars who are not religiously as knowledgeable as even a regular seminarian of our country in justifying this verse make a big insolence to the prophet (S.A.W.) claiming that this verse refers to the lifetime of the prophet (S.A.W.) only.”

“These excommunicated Wahhabis made the biggest insolence to the presence of the prophet (S.A.W.) and although Qur’an maintains that the martyrs are alive they do not view the position of the prophet (S.A.W.) even as a martyr”, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi stressed.

“If they do not consider the position of the prophet (S.A.W.) even as least as a martyr then why they solute the prophet (S.A.W.) in their prayer?” he pointed out.

“We hope one day the tombs of the Infallible Imams (A.S.) would be built more magnificently and just like the tombs of the two Askari Imams in Samara that were ruined and now are being rebuilt more magnificently, the same would happen for the tombs of Baqi’s Imams”, he added.

Sura Wal-Asr is the plan of human felicity

Referring to sura Wal-Asr, he asserted, “Wal-Asr has only three verses but the commentators believe that these three verses indicate a thorough plan for human felicity.”

“At the beginning of this sura, God swears by the time and that humans are afflicted with loss unless those who have faith and do good deeds and recommend each other to truth and patience”, he reiterated.

Referring to a tradition from Imam Sadeq (A.S.), he asserted, “Regarding the virtue of this sura, his holiness says that if anyone recites this sura in his supererogatory prayers, God will resurrect him with a shining and bright face and eyes in the resurrection day and he will enter to the Heaven as reward.”

Necessity of Islamic thought penetration into curriculum

Noting that the education ministry intends to prepare the book of training music for the youth, Ayatollah Makarem said, “The environment is full of music. What would happen if the youth are not familiar with music? The thought to be inserted into the curriculum should be completely Islamic but not strange.”

It is notable that Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi gives lecture every Friday night after leading the collective Maghrib and Isha prayers in the Razavi Jame’ courtyard besides leading the collective Maghrib and Isha prayers in the Razavi Jame’ courtyard every evening.

Wahhabi Targeted Destruction of Shrines in the Name of Shirk

- Reason for hatred toward the Shrines of Ahlul Bayt? Shirk and Bida'ah.
- No sensible person will say that we worship the shrine.
- The Wahhabis aren't able to distinguish between Ziyaraat and Ibadat.
- They are considered to be the guardian of Baytullah. Yet they still don't understand the difference between Ziyarat and Ibadat.
- Muslims go in millions to face the Ka'bah.
- The Salafis will not consider the act of facing the Kabah as shirk.
- Are we worshipping the Mohr? (Turba)
- We do not worship the turba, we worship ON the Turba
- Poets of the time when Saud demolished Imam Hussain's shrine: " I swear by Allah, Banu Ummayyah are the ones who Killed the son (Hussain), but these people did the same by demolishing the shrine"
- They regret that they were not alive on Ashura to Kill Hussain so they compensate by demolishing his shrine.
- Ziyarat is a way of renewing Bay'at to our Imams.
- We can rebuild shrines and buildings, but we cannot bring back characters like Ali (a.s.)
- 500-700 people are being killed in Egypt.
- The Ummah has reached to a point where human life has no value anymore. We don't think twice about killing someone who doesn't agree with us.
- We have never heard any condemnation by the Canadian government for the Shias being killed in Pakistan.

Destruction of Jannatul Baqi :oppression on Janabe fatima (sa) continues till today

( 8TH SHAWWAL -1345 AH / April 21, 1925)
 ____________________________________________________

HISTORY OF THE CEMETERY OF JANNAT AL-BAQI

WHERE IMAM HASAN B. ALI (2ND IMAM), IMAM ALI B. AL-HUSAYN (4TH IMAM), IMAM MUHAMMAD B. ALI (5TH IMAM), & IMAM JA'FAR B. MUHAMMAD (6TH IMAM), PEACE BE UPON THEM, ARE BURIED

On 8th Shawwal, Wednesday, in the year 1345 AH (April 21, 1925), mausoleums in Jannatul al-Baqi (Madina) were demolished by King Ibn Saud.

In the same year (1925), he also demolished the tombs of holy personages at Jannat al-Mualla (Makkah) where the Holy Prophet (s)'s mother, wife, grandfather and other ancestors are buried.

Destruction of sacred sites in Hijaz by the Saudi Wahhabis continues even today. According to some scholars what is happening in Hijaz is actually a conspiracy plotted by the Jews against Islam, under the guise of Tawheed. The idea is to eradicate the Islamic legacy and heritage and to systematically remove all its vestiges so that in the days to come, Muslims will have no affiliation with their religious history.

Grand Shia Cleric 'Makarem' Condemned Silence Against Wahhabis Crimes

Grand Shia Cleric Grand Iranian Shia cleric, Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi reproved the silence of Islamic Scholars against the crimes of Wahhabis.

Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi urged Islamic scholars and religious cleric not to capitulate and let Wahhabis keep destroying the historical and religious places in Saudi Arabia.

The enemies of Islam try to obfuscate the history of Islam via destroying the religious places, but the point is that “in other parts of the world governments make huge investment for repairing the historical places,” said the senior cleric.

“They invite people to visit these places which are the emblem of their culture and civilizations,” Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi underscored.

Wahhabis’ minds are impervious to reasoning so the senior cleric underscored that the Islamic scholars should stand against such hermetic minds and force them to reconstruct the places.

These religious places do not belong to Wahhabis; they belonged to all Muslims around the world so it is incumbent upon each scholar to reprove such blasphemous act.

8th of Shawwal Destruction of Historical Sites in Makkah & Medina The Cradle of Islam & The Silence of Muslim Ummah

The Saudis are now set on unprecedented onslaught of demolishing the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad pbuh and other historical structures in the heart of Mecca and Medina, the cradle of Islam, revered by the world's 1.5 billion Muslims. Over the last two decades most of Makkah's 1000-year-old historic sites have been bulldozed and replaced by hotels and other concrete jungles. Failure to protect them from destruction is the biggest tragedy for the Islamic architectural heritage.

The Saudi royal family claims to be guardians of the holy places of Islam, and profit hugely from the centuries by visiting believers to Makkah and Medina for pilgrimage.  And yet, they are party to this barbaric desecration of the holiest sites in the Islamic world.

Today, the religious zealots in Saudi Arabia are not alone. Commercial developers such as Bin Laden Group have joined hands with them and are making hundreds of millions in profits as they build ugly, but lucrative high-rises that are shadowing the Grand Mosque known as the Ka'aba.  Today Saudi petrodollars have the ability to silence even its most vocal critics, but when all is said and done, history will render a harsh judgment on those who try to wipe out its footprints and steal the heritage of all humanity.

The problem is the Saudi's interpretation of Islam; they are opposed to the preservation of the old historic structures due to belief that some Muslims in their ignorance would be overcome with love and awe that historic sites may invoke, leading to idolatrous thoughts. Destruction of the most precious sites in Islam for fear of idolatry by some is like killing a child for fear that he may grow up to be less than pious. In effect, behind the obsessive fear of idolatry lies a complete lack of understanding and total fanaticism of radical Islam, unable even to appreciate its own past.

What is the reason for the silence of Muslim Ummah?  "Is it because so called Muslim nations have become so overwhelmed by the power of the Saudis or is it because we feel a need to cover up Muslim-on-Muslim violence; Muslim-on-Muslim terror; Muslim-on-Muslim oppression?

We Muslims constantly rally against any wrongs inflicted on fellow-Muslims by non-Muslims but hold our silence when Muslims kill, exploit and terrorize other Muslims. Thus, when the Americans kill Iraqis, or the Russians persecute Chechens; we are rightly offended and resentful. But when Saddam Hussein massacred Kurds and Shias for years, Muslims around the world maintained a discreet silence.  So why this conspiracy of silence?

Thousands demonstrated against the desecration of the Holy Book Quran at Guantanamo and in USA and thousands complained at the remark by Congressman Tom Tancredo of Colorado, referring to Makkah and Medina when he said "If there is another 9/11 we should take out their holy places," Where are those zealots now?

Why aren't our preachers at mosques or our organizations regularly demand that the Saudi government halt their destructive plans?  Alas, these double standards are what now define the Muslim Community.  It seems we have become completely neutered.

Saudi Arabia, in which Wahhabism is the state form of Islam, has a long history of vandalizing and demolishing historical monuments. Cultural devastation of Islamic heritage sites is not a new phenomenon.

1). In 1801 the Saudis-Wahabbis waged a campaign against the Shia Muslim destroying and defacing the sacred tomb of the Imam Hussein in Karbala, Iraq.

2). Then in early 1920s Saudi rulers Aal-e-Sa'ud bulldozed and levelled a graveyard in Medina - Cemetery of Al-Baqee - and Jannatul Moualla - in the holy city of Makkah that housed the shrines of the grandfather of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, his family and his companions. This anniversary falls on 8th of Shawal and is Know as Yaum-e-Ghum - The Day of Grief for Muslims.

3). The Saudis followed their conquest of Mecca and Medina in the mid-1920s with an orgy of destruction. They levelled the "Jannat al-Baqi" or "Heavenly Orchard" at Medina that included graves of the Prophet Muhammad's son Abraham, as well as numerous of the Prophet's relatives and  companions.

4). They also looted the Prophet's Shrine in Medina and demolished the cemetery in Makkah that included the graves of Muhammad's mother and grandfather.

5). They completely destroyed mausoleums, mosques, and other honoured sites, including Muhammad's own house.

6). It was even said that they wished to uproot the grave of Prophet Muhammad pbuh himself and tear down the Kaaba, the stone temple at the centre of Mecca.  They were prevented from this last act by pressure from Muslims around the world.

7). Wahabism vandalism continues unabated even today.

Wahhabism is not about faith, but about power and nothing better illustrates the power of the state, in the mind of the Saudi rulers, than the desecration of holy places--including Islamic sites dating from the time of the Prophet Muhammad pbuh himself.  What pains is - what type of opium Muslim masses are on anyway?  What will it take to shake our deep slumber?  What is all more disturbing is that the so called Muslim Organizations and Nations around the world (except only Iran) continue to remain silent at the desecration of our Holy sites!!!.

****************************************************************
Question
TODAY WILL WE EVEN HAVE TIME & COURAGE TO WRITE JUST ONE LETTER/E-MAIL TO SAUDI AUTHORITIES
TO CONDEMN THEM FOR THEIR ACTIONS AND ASK THEM TO RE-BUILD THESE HOLY PLACES?
1.5 BILLION LETTERS - ONE LETTER FROM EACH INDIVIDUAL, CAN WORK WONDERS, ISN'T IT?

Will each one us write at least one letter? I very much doubt - but then, who knows!
After the spiritual awakening from Month of Ramadhan & Nights of Qa'dr, we may possibly do it!!!!!

HISTORY OF THE CEMETERY OF JANNAT AL-BAQI

WHERE IMAM HASAN B. ALI (2ND IMAM), IMAM ALI B. AL-HUSAYN (4TH IMAM), IMAM

MUHAMMAD B. ALI (5TH IMAM), & IMAM JA'FAR B. MUHAMMAD (6TH IMAM), PEACE BE UPON THEM, ARE BURIED

On 8th Shawwal, Wednesday, in the year 1345 AH (April 21, 1925), mausoleums in Jannatul al-Baqi (Madina) weredemolished by King Ibn Saud.

In the same year (1925), he also demolished the tombs of holy personages at Jannat al-Mualla (Makkah) where the Holy Prophet's mother, wife, grandfather and other ancestors are buried.

Destruction of sacred sites in Hijaz by the Saudi Wahhabis continues even today. According to some scholars what is happening in Hijaz is actually a conspiracy plotted by the Jews against Islam, under the guise of Tawheed. The idea is to eradicate the Islamic legacy and heritage and to systematically remove all its vestiges so that in the days
to come, Muslims will have no affiliation with their religious history.

The Origins of Al-Baqi

Literally "al-Baqi" means a tree garden. It is also known as "Jannat al-Baqi" due to its sanctity, since in it are buried many of our Prophet's relatives and companions.

The first companion buried in al-Baqi was Uthman b. Madhoon who died on the 3rd of Sha'ban in the 3rd year of Hijrah. The Prophet (s) ordered certain trees to be felled, and in its midst, he buried his dear companion, placing two stones over the grave.

On the following years, the Prophet's son Ibrahim, who died in infancy and over whom the Prophet (s) wept bitterly, was also buried there. The people of Madina then began to use that site for the burial of their own dead, because the Prophet (s) used to greet those who were buried in al-Baqi by saying, "Peace be upon you, O abode of the faithful! God willing, we should soon join you. O' Allah, forgive the fellows of al-Baqi".

The site of the burial ground at al-Baqi was gradually extended. Nearly seven thousand companions of the Holy Prophet (s) were buried there, not to mention those of the Ahlul Bayt (a). Imam Hasan b. Ali (a), Imam Ali b. al-Husayn (a), ImamMuhammad al-Baqir (a), and Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a) were all buried there.

Among other relatives of the Prophet (s) who were buried at al-Baqi are: his aunts Safiya and Aatika, and his aunt Fatima bint al-Asad, the mother of Imam Ali (a). The third caliph Uthman was buried outside al-Baqi, but with later extensions, his grave was included in the area. In later years, great Muslim scholars like Malik bin Anas and many others, were buried there too. Thus, did al-Baqi become a well-known place of great historic significance to all Muslims.

Al-Baqi as viewed by historians

Umar bin Jubair describes al-Baqi as he saw it during his travel to Madina, saying "Al-Baqi is situated to the east of Madina. You enter it through the gate known as the gate of al-Baqi. As you enter, the first grave you see on your left is that of Safiya, the Prophet's aunt, and further still is the grave of Malik bin Anas, the Imam of Madina. On his grave is raised a small dome. In front of it is the grave of Ibrahim son of our Prophet (s) with a white dome over it, and next to it on the right is the grave of Abdul-Rahman son of Umar bin al-Khattab, popularly known as Abu Shahma, whose father had kept punishing him till death overtook him. Facing it are the graves of Aqeel bin Abi Talib and Abdullah bin Ja'far al-Tayyar. There, facing those graves is a small shrine containing the graves of the Prophet's wives, following by a shrine of Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib.

The grave of Hasan bin Ali (a), situated near the gate to it's right hand, has an elevated dome over it. His head lies at the feet of Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib, and both graves are raised high above the ground, their walls are panelled with yellow plates and studded with beautiful star-shaped nails. This is how the grave of Ibrahim, son of the Prophet (s) has also been adorned. Behind the shrine of Abbas there is the house attributed to Fatima, daughter of our Prophet (s), known as "Bayt al-Ahzaan" (the house of grief) because it is the house she used to frequent in order to mourn the death of her father, the chosen one, peace be upon him. At the farthest end of al-Baqi is the grave of the caliph Uthman, with a small dome over it, and there, next to it, is the grave of Fatima bint Asad, mother of Ali b. Abi Talib (a)"

After a century and a half, the famous traveller Ibn Batuta came to describe al-Baqi in a way which does not in any way differ from the description given by Ibn Jubair. He adds saying, "At al-Baqi are the graves of numerous Muhajirin and Ansar and many companions of the Prophet (s), except that most of their names are unknown."

Thus, over the centuries, al-Baqi remained a sacred site with renovations being carried out as and when needed till the Wahhabis rose to power in the early nineteenth century. The latter desecrated the tombs and demonstrated disrespect to the martyrs and the companions of the Prophet (s) buried there. Muslims who disagreed with them were branded as "infidels" and were subsequently killed.

The First Destruction of Al-Baqi

The Wahhabis believed that visiting the graves and the shrines of the Prophets, the Imams, or the saints was a form of idolatry and totally un-Islamic. Those who did not conform with their belief were killed and their property was confiscated. Since their first invasion of Iraq, and till nowadays, in fact, the Wahhabis, as well as other rulers of the Gulf States, having been carrying out massacres from which no Muslim who disagreed with them was spared. Obviously, the rest of the Islamic World viewed those graves with deep reverence. Had it not been so, the two caliphs Abu Bakr and Umar would not have expressed their desire for burial near the grave of the Prophet (s).

From 1205 AH to 1217 AH, the Wahhabis made several attempts to gain a foothold in Hijaz but failed. Finally, in 1217 AH, they somehow emerged victorious in Taif where they spilled the innocent blood of Muslims. In 1218 AH, they entered Makkah and destroyed all sacred places and domes there, including the one which served as a canopy over the well of Zamzam.

In 1221, the Wahhabis entered Madina to desecrate al-Baqi as well as every mosque they came across. An attempt was even made to demolish the Prophet's tomb, but for one reason or another, the idea was abandoned. In subsequent years, Muslims from Iraq, Syria, and Egypt were refused entry into Makkah for Hajj. King Al-Saud set a pre-condition that those who wished to perform the pilgrimage would have to accept Wahhabism or else be branded as non-Muslims, becoming ineligible for entry into the Haram.

Al-Baqi was razed to the ground, with no sign of any grave or tomb whatsoever. But the Saudis were still not quite satisfied with doing all of that. Their king ordered three black attendants at the Prophet's shrine to show him where the treasure of valuable gifts were stored. The Wahhabis plundered the treasure for their own use.

Thousands of Muslims fled Makkah and Madina in a bid to save their lives and escape from the mounting pressure and persecution at the hands of the Wahhabis. Muslims from all over the world denounced this Saudi savagery and exhorted the Caliphate of the Ottoman Empire to save the sacred shrines from total destruction. Then, as it is known, Muhammad Ali Basha attacked Hijaz and, with the support of local tribes, managed to restore law and order in Madina and Makkah, dislodging the Al-Saud clansmen. The entire Muslim world celebrated this victory with great fanfare and rejoicing. In Cairo, the celebrations continued for five days. No doubt, the joy was due to the fact that pilgrims were once more allowed freely to go for Hajj, and the sacred shrines were once again restored.

In 1818 AD, the Ottaman Caliph Abdul Majid and his successors, Caliphs Abdul Hamid and Mohammed, carried out the reconstruction of all sacred places, restoring the Islamic heritage at all important sites. In 1848 and 1860 AD, further renovations were made at the expense of nearly seven hundred thousand pounds, most of which came from the donations collected at the Prophet's tomb.

The second plunder by the Wahhabis

The Ottoman Empire had added to the splendor of Madina and Makkah by building religious structures of great beauty and architectural value. Richard Burton, who visited the holy shrines in 1853 AD disguised as an Afghan Muslim and adopting the Muslim name Abdullah, speaks of Madina boasting 55 mosques and holy shrines. Another English adventurer who visited Madina in 1877-1878 AD describes it as a small beautiful city resembling Istanbul. He writes about its white walls, golden slender minarets and green fields.

1924 AD Wahhabis entered Hijaz for a second time and carried out another merciless plunder and massacre. People in streets were killed. Houses were razed to the ground. Women and children too were not spared.

Awn bin Hashim (Shairf of Makkah) writes: "Before me, a valley appeared to have been paved with corpses, dried blood staining everywhere all around. There was hardly a tree which didn't have one or two dead bodies near its roots."

1925 Madina surrendered to the Wahhabi onslaught. All Islamic heritage were destroyed. The only shrine that remained intact was that of the Holy Prophet (s).

Ibn Jabhan says: "We know that the tomb standing on the Prophet's grave is against our principles, and to have his grave in a mosque is an abominable sin."

Tombs of Hamza and other martyrs were demolished at Uhud. The Prophet's mosque was bombarded. On protest by Muslims, assurances were given by Ibn Saud that it will be restored but  the promise was never fulfilled. A promise was given that Hijaz will have an Islamic multinational government. This was also abandoned.

1925 AD Jannat al-Mu'alla, the sacred cemetery at Makkah was destroyed along with the house where the Holy Prophet (s) was born. Since then, this day is a day of mourning for all Muslims.

Is it not strange that the Wahhabis find it offensive to have the tombs, shrines and other places of importance preserved, while the remains of their Saudi kings are being guarded at the expense of millions of dollars?

Protest from Indian Muslims

1926, protest gatherings were held by shocked Muslims all over the world. Resolutions were passed and a statement outlining the crimes perpetrated by Wahhabis was issued and included the following:

1.The destruction and desecration of the holy places i.e. the birth place of the Holy Prophet [s], the graves of Banu Hashim in Makkah and in Jannat al-Baqi (Madinah), the refusal of the Wahhabis to allow Muslims to recite Ziyarah or Surah-al-Fatiha at those graves.

2.The destruction of the places of worship i.e. Masjid Hamza, Masjid Abu Rasheed, in addition to the tombs of Imams and Sahaba (Prophet's companions).

3.Interference in the performance of Hajj rituals.

4.Forcing the Muslims to follow the Wahhabis innovations and to abandon their own ways according to the guidance of the Imams they follow.

5.The massacre of sayyids in Taif, Madina, Ahsa, and Qatif.

6.The demolition of the grave of the Imams at al-Baqi which deeply offended and grieved all Shias.

Protest from other countries

Similar protests were lodged by Muslims in Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Indonesia, and Turkey. All of them condemn the Saudi Wahhabis for their barbaric acts. Some scholars wrote tracts and books to tell the world the fact that what was happening in Hijaz was actually a conspiracy plotted by the Jews against Islam, under the guise of Tawheed. The idea was to eradicate the Islamic legacy and heritage and to systematically remove all its vestiges so that in the days to come, Muslims will have no affiliation with their religious history.

Ali (a), Imam Ali b. al-Husayn (a), Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a), and Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a) were all buried there.

1925 AD Jannat al-Mu'alla, the sacred cemetery at Makkah was destroyed alongwith the house where the Holy Prophet (s) was born. Since then, this day is a day of mourning for all Muslims.

Is it not strange that the Wahhabis find it offensive to have the tombs, shrines and other places of importance preserved, while the remains of their Saudi kings are being guarded at the expense of millions of dollars?
